UNIVERSITY PARK, PA - The University of Iowa men's gymnastics team competed in the 2007 NCAA Qualifier Thursday at Penn State University. The Hawkeyes finished fifth in session I, with a score of 209.5. The top three teams from each session advance to the NCAA team finals.

Jonathan Buese will compete in the all-around finals Friday, after placing third overall with a score of 50.8. He scored a 9.2 on rings and an 8.5 on vault to place 19th on both events. On pommel horse, Jacob Becker tied for second, scoring a 9.1. Geoff Reins led the Hawkeyes on floor exercise, posting a 9.5 to finish tied for third. On rings, Jacques Bouchard led Iowa, finishing fifth (9.55).

Tonight California, Minnesota, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Penn State and Temple compete to determine who will advance to the team finals from session II. The NCAA team and all-around finals are tomorrow night beginning at 7 p.m. The individual event championships will be held Saturday night beginning at 7 p.m. The top three individual scores in each event from the teams who did not advance to the finals, will participate in the individual event finals.
