Hawkeye senior Curtis Kleffman has been named the NCAA Division I National Gymnast of the Week by a national coaches poll. He earned the honor after his outstanding performance in a near upset against fourth-ranked Illinois.

Kleffman placed first in the all-around competition (86.45), breaking the 2008 event high for the Hawkeyes. On pommel horse, he placed third (14.65), also recording an event high, and fourth on floor exercise, scoring a 14.80.

"I am very proud of Curtis," Head Coach Tom Dunn said. "He has very carefully managed a comeback from a complete rest from the sport last summer to back-to-back all-around performances that have culminated in this great honor. With six weeks remaining in his collegiate career, he appears ready to finish up on his own terms."

Kleffman and the Hawkeyes will return to action on Friday March 14 at Nebraska. Competition is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
