IOWA CITY-

Hawkeye junior, Geoff Reins was selected as Big Ten Gymnast of the Week Wednesday. The Illinois native earned the honor after scoring two individual wins in a matchup against Nebraska on Friday, March 14.

Reins posted a season high on floor exercise, scoring 15.100 and placing first. On vault, he earned another personal best, placing first with a final score of 16.300. This selection is his first career weekly accolade, and the first for the Hawkeyes since Michael Reavis on March 8, 2006.

"Geoff Reins is the epitome of a competitor. The bigger the meet the better he does. Unfortunately, he only works Floor Exercise and Vault," said Hawkeye Head Coach Tom Dunn. "If he worked two or three more events he would be the kind of guy I would want on our Olympic Team."

Reins and the Hawkeyes return to action March 21 when they travel to Minneapolis, MN to compete against Minnesota and Illinois.
