SOUTH BEND, IN The University of Iowa men's swimming team traveled to South Bend, IN to compete against BYU, Notre Dame and Louisville. The Hawkeyes came away with three victories, which included an upset of 18th ranked BYU. Iowa's 5-1 record is among the best starts in history.

Iowa was led by a strong overall performance up and down the lineup. Four Hawkeyes came away with victories in their individual events. Junior Elliot Ptasnik was the only Hawkeye with victories in two individual events. Ptasnik had victories in the 100 and 200 breastroke. Junior Andrei Ciurca took first in the 200 backstroke. Sophomore Kevin Velleca came away with a victory in the 100 breastroke, while freshman Mariusz Muras took first in the 200 butterfly. The Hawkeyes also had an excellent performance in the 200 yard medley relay where they took first and third.

Competition will continue Friday morning at 11 a.m. in West Lafayette, IN at the Purdue Invitational.
