Des Moines, Iowa --Doubles action got underway at the Drake Invitational as two University of Iowa men’s tennis doubles teams competed Friday at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.

"We had a pretty good outing," said head coach Steve Houghton. “Credit goes to Connor (Gilmore) and Matt (Hagan) for making it to the finals in doubles. They played well."

Junior Connor Gilmore and freshman Matt Hagan advanced to the finals match in the Flight B doubles main draw with two victories. The tandem defeated Northern Illinois’ Axel Lagerlof and Maximilian Phillips 9-7 in round one. In the semifinals, Gilmore and Hagan defeated Gustavus Adolphus’ Marcel Gwsyt and Daniel Pomeranc 8-4. Gilmore and Hagan will face Creighton’s Gabe Nagy and Ryan Norman in the finals.

Iowa’s Garret Dunn and Christopher Speer won their first match in the Flight A doubles main draw with an 8-3 win over Creighton’s Sean Mathison and Billy Paluch. Dunn and Speer came up short in the second round.
