    The University of Iowa men's tennis team hosts UMKC on Tuesday, with the midweek match set to begin at 1:00 p.m. (CT). The dual will take place inside the Hawkeye Tennis & Recreation Complex (HTRC), and is free to the public.

    The University of Iowa men's tennis team opened the season Feb. 1, sweeping Illinois State and Western Illinois in a doubleheader. The Hawkeyes only dropped one set en route to a pair of 7-0 victories. Jonas Diercx, Juan Estenssoro, Dominic Patrick, Michael Swank, and Nils Hallestrand all picked up two wins in singles play, while the duo of Hallestrand and Joey White picked up two doubles wins on the afternoon. Iowa took a business-like approach in its sweep over Western Illinois, out scoring the Lethernecks 72 games to 19.

    UMKC enters the meet with a 1-3 record, falling to No. 42 Drake its last time out. The Kangaroos picked up their lone victory in their season-opening match against Baker, winning 7-0. The `Roos are led by Tomas Patino and Mike Psarros in the No. 1 and No. 2 singles spots.

    Making his college dual debut, freshman Nils Hallestrand delivered, posting two singles and two doubles wins to help the Hawkeyes sweep Illinois State and Western Illinois. Hallestrand won a pair of doubles matches in the No. 3 spot with teammate Joey White, while also picking up victories in the No. 5 and No. 6 singles spot.

    Ross Wilson joins the program as an assistant coach after serving the past year as an assistant coach at San Diego. Wilson was named the 2012 ITA National Assistant Coach of the Year and ITA Central Region Assistant Coach of the Year this past year after he helped guide San Diego to a third-straight NCAA Tournament appearance. Wilson was a two-time NCAA All-American and three-time ITA national doubles champion during his playing days at Ohio State.

    HEAD COACH Steve Houghton
    Steve Houghton, the dean of Big Ten tennis coaches, is in his 33rd year as head coach of the Hawkeyes. He has compiled a career record of 345-381 (.475), recording the most wins of any coach in Iowa men's tennis history.

    "I tell the guys that they need to challenge themselves, play as well as you can play, and don't pay a lot of attention to the opposition."
