IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Incoming University of Iowa men's tennis recruit Josh Silverstein competed in the ITF International Grass Courts Championships held June 9-14, in Haverford, Pennsylvania, and had success against some of the top players in the world.

In singles competition, Silverstein bounced William Tutecky of Canada, who is ranked No. 336 in the world junior ITF rankings, in the first round, 6-4, 7-6 (1). Silverstein followed up that performance with a straight sets victory over Alex Cauneac of Canada, 6-3, 6-1 in the second round.

The five-star recruit from Great Neck, N.Y., continued his stellar play with a 6-2, 6-4 quarterfinals win over No. 3 seed and University of Georgia commit Walker Duncan, who is ranked No. 209 in the world junior rankings and No. 3 in the country. Silverstein's run ultimately came to an end in the semifinals with a 6-3, 6-0 defeat to No. 2 seed Miomir Kechmanovic of Serbia, who is ranked No. 190 in the ITF rankings.

Silverstein was paired with Duncan in doubles action. After a first-round bye, the duo topped Chase Burton and Alexsander Kovacevic, 6-4, 6-0, in the quarterfinals before falling to Myles Schalet and Gabe Tuishman, 6-4, 6-4, in the semifinals.
