Shannon Gage completed her eighth year as an assistant coach, her sixth with the Iowa Hawkeyes in 2012-13.
Gage, who served as Director of Basketball Operations for the University of Iowa women's basketball program from 2003-05, rejoined the Hawkeye staff as an assistant coach in the summer of 2007 after serving as an assistant coach at the University of Michigan for two seasons (2005-07).
Gage provides a wide range of duties for the Iowa staff while playing a heavy role in the Hawkeyes' recruiting efforts. She assists with all aspects of conditioning and individual workouts. She also performs a number of scouting duties.
During her time at Iowa, Gage has helped coach seven perimeter players to 16 All-Big Ten honors, including four first team selections, the 2010 Big Ten Freshman of the Year in Jaime Printy and the 203 Big Ten Sixth Player of the Year in Melissa Dixon. She has also mentored two players that received all-district honors and two honorable mention All-Americans in Kachine Alexander and Jaime Printy.
The Hawkeyes have broken numerous school records during Gage's time at Iowa. In 2009-10, Iowa shattered both the single season and Big Ten record for three-pointers made and attempted and tied single season marks for assists, three-pointers made in a single game and free throw percentage. Iowa set the school record for team assists in 2012-13.
Individually, Wendy Ausdemore broke or tied seven school records in her four years at Iowa while Kristi Smith became the first Hawkeye ever to amass over 400 points and 100 assists in three seasons. In 2009-10, Kachine Alexander set new school records in free throws made and attempted in a single season, Kamille Wahlin tied the school record for three-pointers made and set a new mark for three-pointers attempted and also became the first player in school history to record 400 career assists and 200 made 3-pointers. Kachine Alexander became the first player in school history, and just the fifth in Big Ten history, to collect 1,000 career points, 800 career rebounds and 300 career assists.
Most recently, Jaime Printy finished her career ranked inside the top 10 in points, 3-pointers made and assists at Iowa, while also setting numerous single-game, season and career free throw marks.
The native of Tulsa, OK, has performed a myriad of coaching duties at the collegiate level, including the coordination of summer camps, overseeing budgets, monitoring academics and providing support in recruiting.
Prior to appointment as Iowa Director of Basketball Operations in 2003, Gage enjoyed a successful stint professionally in fashion merchandise. The former Southwest Missouri State captain, however, returned to athletics with a desire to coach, having spent much of her life around basketball. Gage's father, Roy Gage, Sr. has been in coaching for more than 30 years, including 17 years of involvement in summer AAU programs for both boys and girls designed to increase collegiate exposure.
As a player, Gage was a four-year letterwinner, part of three Missouri Valley Conference championship teams and three NCAA Tournament teams in 1995, 1996 and as a senior in 1998.
