Jan. 6, 2010
IOWA CITY - University of Iowa women's basketball coach Lisa Bluder announced that Megan Considine has officially joined the team as a walk-on. The announcement came Wednesday from Bluder.
"We are glad that Megan is joining our team mid-season," Bluder said. "She will give us much needed depth at the guard position, due to the loss of so many of our players after injuries. Megan comes from an athletic family that has tremendous Iowa roots. We are fortunate to have her on campus already, and that she can join us in the middle of our season."
Considine, who is a sophomore at Iowa, is from Byron, IL and prepped at Byron High School. She was named to 11 different all-state teams during her high school career, including first team Illinois Basketball Coaches Association honors in 2007 and 2008, along with Illinois Basketball Services first team accolades in 2006-08. Considine was also named second team all-state by the Chicago Sun-Times in 2006.
Considine was a four-year first team all-conference pick, and was a unanimous selection in 2007 and 2008. She also finished ninth in voting for the 2008 Illinois Miss Basketball award, given to the top prep player in the state.
Considine was a three-year team captain and MVP at Byron High School, and holds school records for career points (2,077), assists (498) and steals (582). She also ranks second on the career rebounds list (868). She guided her high school team to four-straight regional championships, two sectional titles, one super-sectional win and a trip the Illinois State Elite Eight. In her four year high school career, Byron never lost a home game.
Considine also lettered in volleyball and track, claiming a state title in the 4x200 relay and a second place finish in the 4x100 relay.
Megan's brother, Sean Considine, played football at Iowa and is currently in the NFL with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Her other brother, Ryan Considine, was a member of the Iowa baseball team.
