IOWA CITY, Iowa -- University of Iowa junior point guard Samantha Logic has been named a Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) All-Region 6 selection. Logic is among 52 candidates nationally that will be considered for the 10-member WBCA Division I Coaches' All-America Team. The All-America teams will be announced April 5 during the NCAA Women's Final Four activities in Nashville.

"Sam is very deserving of this recognition," said UI head coach Lisa Bluder. "She is a great leader, and one of the most consistent players in the country. She is a triple-double waiting to happen every time she takes the court."

Logic is the first Hawkeye to earn WBCA regional All-America honors since Kachine Alexander in 2010 and 2011.

Logic was a unanimous first team All-Big Ten selection by the coaches, and a first team selection by the media, becoming the 18th Iowa player to garner first-team All-Big Ten honors, marking the most of any Big Ten program. Kachine Alexander was the last Hawkeye to earn first team honors (2010, 2011).

Logic (5-9), the Big Ten leader in assists, is the only player in the nation to average 13 or more points (13.3), six or more rebounds (6.7), and seven or more assists (7.6). She led the Big Ten in league play in assists (8.0) and steals (3.0). Logic, averaging 16.7 points, 8.9 assists, 6.4 rebounds and 2.5 steals in 10 games against ranked opponents this season, was named Big Ten Player of the Week three times, while also being named to the Big Ten Player of the Week Honor Roll four additional times. Logic has been named 1-of-22 finalists for the 2014 Nancy Lieberman Award (nation's top point guard).

Logic, who is tied for second nationally in assists, has notched three triple-doubles this season, becoming the first Big Ten player to record three triple-doubles in a single season. Logic is second nationally in triple-doubles; Alyssa Thomas of Maryland has four this season. Entering the 2013-14 campaign, there had only been 11 seasons in NCAA history in which a player registered three or more triple-doubles. Logic has four career triple-doubles, the second most in Big Ten history, and the most while competing in the Big Ten (Suzie McConnell of Penn State registered seven from 1985-88).

In Iowa's First Round NCAA Tournament victory over Marist (87-65), Logic fell one rebound shy of the 14th triple-double in tournament history (11 points, nine rebounds, 10 assists).

This season, Logic surpassed Cara Consuegra (1997-2001; 576 assists) to become Iowa's all-time assists leader. In Iowa's 74-70 win at Michigan on Feb. 22, the Racine, Wis., native notched a game-high 19 points, becoming the 31st 1,000-point scorer in program history.

Logic has tallied a program-record 266 assists this season, marking the fourth-best single-season total in Big Ten history. She has 619 career assists, which ranks ninth in league history. Logic ranks ninth in the NCAA among active players in career assists, trailing eight seniors.

Logic and the Hawkeyes host fourth-ranked Louisville tonight at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament. Tip is scheduled for 8:35 p.m. (CT) on ESPN2.
