Box Score

PHILADELPHIA - The University of Iowa field hockey team fell to the North Carolina Tarheels, 1-0, in the first round of the Temple Invitational Saturday on the campus of Temple University. It is the second-consecutive game Iowa has dropped to North Carolina, having lost 5-0 last week at the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.

The Hawkeyes made a much better showing of themselves in this game against the Tarheels, allowing only 17 shots Saturday, as opposed to 32 in their last meeting.

Both teams played back-and-forth hockey in the first period, but the defenses held and the game was scoreless heading into halftime.

The Tarheels recorded the only goal of the game 7:25 into the second half when Kelsey Keeran buried a pass from Rachel Dawson.

The Hawkeyes put four shots on goal and earned four penalty corners the rest of the way, but they weren't able to crack the cage and avoid their second-consecutive shutout at the hands of North Carolina.

Barb Weinberg made 12 saves on the day. Margot McMahon recorded a team-best three shots on goal, while Sarah Dawson took two.

Iowa (0-3) will take on either American or Temple tomorrow at 10 a.m. (CDT).
