IOWA CITY - The fourth-ranked University of Iowa field hockey team defeated No. 16 Louisville 4-3 Friday. The win improved the Hawkeyes record to 4-1. Senior Adrienne Dybus shined for the Hawkeyes by scoring her first two career goals.

Louisville did not waste any time scoring the first goal. Only four minutes into the game, the Cardinals blasted a shot from the top of the circle into the net.

As the two teams battled back-and-fourth it was the Hawkeyes that scored the next goal. During the 16th minute, junior Caroline Blaum received a pass from Lauren Pfeiffer and slapped the ball past the Cardinal defense for her first goal of the season.

Louisville regained the lead during the 24th minute. Nicole Youman took the direct-push from Lauren Schaefer and drilled the ball past the Hawkeye defense.

Sophomore Tricia Dean scored an unassisted goal from the top of the circle, during the 50th minute to even the score.

The Hawkeyes stretched their lead when Dybus rebounded a Caitlin McCurdy miss and slammed the ball past the Cardinals goalkeeper, during the 60th minute. Dybus scored her second career-goal only one minute later, making the score 4-2.

The Cardinals scored their third point of the match during the 69th minute when Julie Barton flipped the ball over the Hawkeye defense into the goal. As time expired, the Cardinals were awarded with a penalty corner. Iowa was able to stop the initial shot, but Louisville was granted a second penalty corner. The Hawkeye defense denied the shot attempt and ruined the Cardinals' idea of overtime.

The No. 4 Hawkeyes return to action Sunday at 3 p.m. against Missouri State at Grant Field.
