IOWA CITY, IA - - The 17th-ranked University of Iowa field hockey team lost to Stanford in overtime Sunday, 3-2, at Grant Field. The Hawkeyes fall to 1-5 on the season with the loss.
Stanford struck first in the 29th minute as Xanthe Travlos deflected in a goal to give the Cardinal a 1-0 advantage. Camille Gandhi was credited with the assist.
At the 57:34 mark, Kelsey Lloyd chipped in a goal over Hawkeye goalkeeper Tori Garifo to give the Cardinal a 2-1 advantage. With one minute remaining in regulation, Pergine scored to tie the match at two and send it into overtime.
In the first minute of overtime, Jaimee Erickson scored off a deflection to give Stanford a 3-2 victory.
The Hawkeyes face St. Louis Saturday at Grant Field. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m. Admission is free.
