IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa field hockey team defeated Missouri State, 10-2, Sunday at Grant Field. The 12th-ranked Hawkeyes move to 7-1 with the victory and extend their winning streak to six games. Iowa has outscored its opponents 32-6 during its win streak.

The 10 goals against Missouri State Sunday mark the most the Hawkeyes have scored in a game since defeating Saint Louis, 12-0, on Sept. 19, 2009.

"We had contributions from a number of different players," said head coach Tracey Griesbaum. "We were offensive-minded today. It was very positive."

Missouri State struck first with a goal at the 4:11 mark, but Iowa answered, recording the next eight goals of the contest.

Sarah Drake scored at the 6:54 mark to tie the score. Corinne Allen gave the Hawkeyes the lead with her first career goal at the 24:50 mark. Moments later, Kim Scraper pushed the lead to 3-1 as she notched her conference-leading 14th goal of the season off a nice pass from Becca Spengler.

At the 30:29 mark, Marike Stribos converted the first of three successful penalty corners for Iowa. Niki Schultheis scored in the 33rd minute to make the halftime score 5-1.

The Hawkeyes kept the offensive momentum going in the second half. Stribos scored three minutes into the half on another penalty stroke to make the score 6-1. At the 41:21 mark, Kelsey Mitchell tallied her first goal of the season to push the lead 7-1. Drake notched her second goal of the game on a back-handed shot in the 44th minute to make the score 8-1.

The Bears scored in the 53rd minute to make the score 8-2 before Iowa recorded the final two goals of the game. Aubrey Coleman converted the third penalty stroke for the Hawkeyes in the 55th minute and Spengler scored at the 57:05 mark to make the final score 10-2.

Iowa opens conference action next weekend when it hosts rivals Michigan State and Penn State in Iowa City. The Black and Gold entertain the Spartans Friday, Sept. 23, at 3 p.m. and the Nittany Lions Sunday, Sept. 25, at 1 p.m. Both matches will be held at Grant Field. Admission is free.
