IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Three players from the University of Iowa field hockey program -- former Hawkeye All-American Jessica Barnett, senior Karli Johansen, and freshman Stephanie Norlander -- have been selected by Field Hockey Canada for the Women's National Team.

Both Barnett and Johansen will be competing for the Women's National Team in 2014 and into 2015, while Norlander will be a member of the Senior Development Squad. Senior Development Squad players are considered close-to-ready for the National Team and are making progress towards becoming ready for senior level international competition.

"Earning a spot on your National Team is a wonderful accomplishment," said UI head coach Tracey Griesbaum. "We wish them the best as they prepare for the upcoming tournaments. We are always proud of what the Hawkeyes do to represent their country."

The trio from North Vancouver, Canada, competed in a four-game test series between the U.S. Women's National Squad and the Canadian Women's National Team in March.

"It is always a huge honor to be selected to represent your country," said Barnett. "I am fortunate to be able to continue to play hockey at such a competitive level, and I am grateful for the opportunity to do so."

Barnett was a two-time All-American, and three-time All-Big Ten honoree, regional All-American and Big Ten All-Tournament selection. Barnett, the UI's 2013 Female Athlete of the Year, was a member of the 2013 National Squad.

Johansen, a senior on the 2013 Hawkeye squad, was selected to compete in the 2013 Front Rush/NFHCA Division I Senior Game. She was named to the Big Ten All-Tournament team as a sophomore and junior. Johansen was also a member of the 2013 National Squad.

Norlander had a standout season for Iowa as a freshman in 2013. She was named to the NFHCA West Region All-America second team and was the Big Ten Freshman of the Year. Norlander was named to the Canadian Junior Development Squad in 2013.

"Making the National Team is such an honor and I am so excited to represent my country," said Norlander. "I can't even begin to describe how excited I am for the upcoming year and all the events it will hold. Being able to say I play for Canada is one of the best feelings to have."

Barnett and Johansen will compete next from April 27 to May 7 in the United Kingdom in a series of test matches against the England and Wales National Teams.
