IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa field hockey team is ranked 12th in the country in the 2012 Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I Preseason Poll. The Hawkeyes garnered 347 points in the rankings.

Iowa is one of five Big Ten Conference schools in the team rankings along with Penn State (9), Michigan (10), Ohio State (15) and Northwestern (20.) A total of nine Hawkeye opponents are in the top-25.

Iowa opens the regular season at the Big Ten/ACC Challenge on Aug. 25-26 in Winston-Salem, N.C. The Hawkeyes open play against No. 13 Wake Forest on Saturday before facing second-ranked North Carolina on Sunday.
