2012 Big Ten Field Hockey Tournament The University of Iowa hosts the 2012 Big Ten Field Hockey Tournament at Grant Field in Iowa City, Iowa. The first two rounds will be held Nov. 1-2, while the championship game will be played Nov. 4. Grant Field opened in 1989 before being resurfaced in 2006. Besides a state-of-the-art playing surface, Grant Field also boasts a permanent grandstand, concession area, press box and rest rooms. The facility was originally named the Hawkeye Field Hockey Field, but was renamed in the honor of former University of Iowa women's athletics director and founder of Iowa field hockey Dr. Christine Grant on Sept. 22, 1991. The field was re-dedicated on Oct. 8, 2006, after it was resurfaced. Grant Field will host the Big Ten Hockey Tournament for the third time in 2012. Iowa City previously hosted the event in 1997 and 2005.
