COLUMBUS, OH - The University of Iowa Women's Golf Team is in second place after the first day of competition at the 15-team Lady Buckeye Invitational hosted by The Ohio State University. Iowa carded a 36-hole score of 603, including a second round score of 298. The Hawkeyes lead third place Kent State (606) by three strokes heading into tomorrow's final round, while they trail Michigan State (588) by 15 strokes for first. Iowa leads five other Big Ten teams (Ohio State, Purdue, Northwestern, Penn State, Indiana). The tournament is being held on the par-73 (6,201 yards) OSU Scarlet Golf Course.

Iowa senior Liz Bennett paced the Hawkeyes after stroking a three-over par 148 and is tied for sixth place. Bennett fired a second round score of two-under par (71). She was one of only four other golfers to accomplish the feat during today's two rounds. Freshman Jill Marcum is tied for 24th place after carding a 154, including a career-best 18-hole score of even-par 73 during the second round. Senior Shannon Fleming is tied for 28th after shooting a 155, while sophomore Amy Riepma is tied for 34th after stroking a 156. Michigan State's Mandi McConnell leads the tournament after firing a one-over par 145.

The final round concludes tomorrow at 7:30 a.m. (CDT) on the Scarlet Golf Course.
