Hawykeyes in Fifteenth Place After Day One
Sept. 12, 2009
EAST LANSING, MI-- The University of Iowa women's golf team is in 15th place at the Mary Fossum Invitational after finishing the first day of play Saturday. Following the first round, Purdue leads the tournament with a three-stroke lead over Michigan State. After 36 holes, Brianna Coopman (+14, 158) led the Hawkeyes today after carding 78 her first round. Junior Laura Cilek had a good day on the links as well (+14, 158). Freshman Kristi Cardwell fired a 162 (+18). Senior Alison Cavanaugh finished the day shooting 163 (+19) and freshman Gigi DiGrazia finished with a 165 (+21). "I was surprised by our scores today," Head Coach Kelly Crawford said. "We have practiced well the past couple of weeks and had what I thought was a great practice round. We gave away too many shots with doubles and triples. We must keep the big numbers off the card tomorrow." The tournament will draw to a close Sunday when the 17 competing teams tee off at 7:30 a.m. (CT) for the final 18 holes.
