IOWA CITY, IA - The Iowa's women's golf team is tied for first place after shooting a team score of 612 during the first day of competition at the Hawkeye Invitational at Finkbine Golf Course. The 15-team tournament is hosted by the Hawkeyes who led by three strokes after the first round with a score of 306. Ball State moved up one spot in the leaderboard and is currently tied with Iowa for first place. Iowa's top four golfers are all in the top 20 on the individual leaderboard. Laura Cilek, tied for sixth, broke her own personal record for 18 holes for the second week in a row. She shot a 73 in the second round and finished the day with a total of 152 (+8). Also setting a new collegiate low, was freshman Chelsea Harris. She carded 77 for both rounds, which beats her previous best by two strokes. Currently, Harris (+10, 154) is tied for 11th. Seniors Tyrette Metzendorf (+7, 151) and Becky Quinby (+11, 155) are sitting in fifth and tied for 16th, respectively. Alison Cavanaugh completed the competing roster for the Hawkeyes. She shot 171 (+27) today and will start tomorrow tied for 76th. Sophomores Lauren Forbes, Brianna Coopman, and Amanda Stahl competed as individuals with Ann Vrdolyak. Forbes, tied for 20th, finished +13; she also posted an individual low for 18 (78) and 36 holes (157). Fellow sophomores Stahl (174, +30) and Coopman (160, +16) are tied for 82nd and 38th, respectively. Ann Vrdolyak carded 168 (+24), as she competed in her first collegiate meet today. She will go in to tomorrow tied for 71st. The 31st annual Hawkeye Invitational will resume tomorrow morning at Finkbine Golf Course. Tee times will begin at 8 a.m. The 15 teams will finish the last 18 holes as the Hawkeyes hope to stay on top of the board and regain the tournament title.
