MUNCIE, Ind. -- The University of Iowa women's gymnastics team dropped its road opener at Ball State on Friday night in Muncie, Ind., 189.975-188.875.

Ten Hawkeyes saw action inside Irving Gym, including two juniors, two sophomores and six freshmen.

"We changed the line-ups to allow the team to build off of last week, but we hit a snag," said UI head coach Larissa Libby. "It's on me to fix it."

The GymHawks started the evening on the bars, registering a 47.625. Freshman Angel Metcalf paced the Hawkeyes with a 9.725. Classmates Mollie Drenth and Amanda Kowalski posted scores of 9.65 and 9.625, respectively.

Iowa posted its highest score on the floor, recording a 48.200. Metcalf paced the Hawkeyes, finishing second with a 9.75. Drenth and junior Sydney Hoerr both registered a 9.675, and sophomore Maryah Huntley tallied a 9.625.

The Hawkeyes held the lead through the first three rotations, before finishing with a 46.450 on the beam. Hoerr won the beam with a 9.675, while Metcalf finished second (9.625).

An injury kept sophomore Alie Glover, who appeared on the 2014 Big Ten Gymnasts to Watch List, from competing in the final two events. Junior Caitlin Tanzer and freshman Ashleigh Edlin took her spots for the final two events.

For the second time in as many outings, Metcalf captured the all-around title, finishing with a score of 38.650. Hoerr finished second (37.300). Metcalf won the all-around in Iowa's season opener on Jan. 11 against Utah State, posting a 38.975.

"I try to focus on hitting my routines for my team," said Metcalf. "Winning the all-around is just an outcome that comes with that."

Iowa travels to No. 9 Georgia on Monday. The competition is set to begin at 1 p.m. (CT) in Athens, Ga.

"After tonight we know our weaknesses," said sophomore Maryah Huntley. "We can only go up from here."
