Hawkeyes Top Seawolves In Anchorage

ANCHORAGE, AK - Iowa defeated Alaska-Anchorage yesterday, 192.125-189.675 in the first of two meets against the Seawolves. Iowa had three event winners, but the team was without sophomore Kara Pinjuv due to an injury during warm-ups. The Hawkeyes improve their season record to 5-4 with the win. On vault, freshman Jenny Donar posted the highest score for the Hawkeyes with a 9.9 in the first vault competition of her collegiate career. Jenifer Simbhudas placed second in the event (9.775) and Katie Burke finished fourth (9.625). On bars, Beth Dilick and Katie Burke tied for first (9.8) which was a season-high for Dilick. Other bars scores include Ally Zipse placing fourth (9.575), and Katie Turcotte finishing fifth with a 9.55. On beam, freshman Nikki Page won the event, scoring 9.725, while Danielle Legeai placed second with a 9.675. Sophomore Brandi Loffer tied for third with a 9.6. On the floor exercise, the Seawolves claimed the top two places, and Iowa's Simbhudas had the highest finish for the Hawkeyes with a third-place 9.725. Dilick placed fourth (9.7), and Legeai and Zipse tied for sixth (9.6). Iowa will face the Seawolves again, Sunday at 2 p.m.
