CEDAR CITY, UT - The 23rd-ranked University of Iowa women's gymnastics team fell to Southern Utah Friday, 195.675-194.275. The GymHawks' record stands at 8-4, including a 2-1 mark in the Big Ten Conference.

Iowa started the dual meet on uneven bars and were led by sophomore Arielle Sucich, who scored a season-high 9.800 to tie for first place. Sophomore teammates Houry Gebeshian and Rebecca Simbhudas finished tied for fourth with identical marks of 9.700.

The GymHawks moved to vault for the second rotation and performed strongly. Their team score of 48.950 is a season-high, led by senior Jenifer Simbhudas, who scored a 9.875. Her younger sister Rebecca didn't trail too far behind, finishing tied for sixth with a 9.825. Sucich continued her night in the right fashion, posting a 9.750 on the event, another season-high mark for the sophomore from Fort Salonga, NY.

Iowa went to floor in the third rotation, scoring a respectable 48.825. Gebeshian posted a 9.825 while R. Simbhudas finished with a 9.800. Also, junior Jenny Donar scored a 9.750, the third meet in a row she has improved on her floor score from the week before.

The GymHawks closed the meet on balance beam, where R. Simbhudas shined with a spectacular performance. Simbhudas scored a 9.925, the highest score by any GymHawk since Danielle Legeai received the same mark March 17, 2006, at Iowa State. Gebeshian scored a 9.875, good for a second place tie.

After finishing first in the all-around Monday against Iowa State with a 39.225, R. Simbhudas one-upped herself Friday night, scoring a 39.250 in the all-around, good enough for second place. Gebeshian was third with a 39.200.

With just three dual meets left on the season before the Big Ten Championships, the GymHawks will look to finish strong, returning to Iowa City next Saturday (Feb. 28) to host the Maryland Terrapins inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Meet time is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
