MINNEAPOLIS, MN - 21st-ranked Iowa competed against Big Ten rival Minnesota today in Minneapolis. The Hawkeyes defeated the 26th-ranked Gophers 194.625-193.95. Iowa had two event winners as well as the top all-around scorer, and the team score of 194.625 is a season best for the Hawkeyes. Iowa now posts a conference record of 1-0.
On vault, freshman Katie Turcotte posted the highest score for the Hawkeyes with a 9.8 to tie for second. Turcotte is currently ranked first in the Big Ten on vault and 24th nationally. Katie Burke placed fourth, scoring 9.775, and Kara Pinjuv finished fifth in the event with a 9.75.
On bars, Burke won the event, scoring 9.8. Other bars scores include Jen Simbhudas, tying for third with a 9.75 and Ally Zipse, tying for fifth (9.7).
On beam, Burke posted a 9.825 to finish first in the event, while Danielle Legeai placed second with a 9.775. Turcotte tied for third, posting a 9.75 and Nikki Page scored a sixth place 9.725.
On floor exercise, Burke posted a 9.85 which earned her a tie for first place with Amanda Miles and Andy Cornelius of Minnesota. Simbhudas posted a 9.8 to tie for fifth place.
Burke won the all-around, with a 39.25, while Simbhudas finished third, scoring 38.875. Burke is ranked 27th nationally in the all-around, while Simbhudas is ranked 36th.
Iowa will host Southern Utah, March 2nd at 7 p.m., and Iowa State, March 4th at 2 p.m.
