IOWA CITY - The University of Iowa women's gymnastics team competed against Iowa State and Minnesota, today. Minnesota won the event with a total score of 195.35, while Iowa State came in second, scoring 195.325, and Iowa finished third with a 194.275. Seniors Beth Dilick and Danielle Legeai were honored in the last home meet of their careers, in front of a crowd of 900.

On vault, Katie Turcotte posted the best score for Iowa, tying for second place with a 9.875. Katie Burke tied for eighth with a 9.775, and Amanda Rudolph tied her personal best in the event, scoring 9.7.

"Today was hard after the first event because we didn't do too well on one of our best events," said Turcotte. "We stayed together as a team and tried our best to make a comeback."

On bars, Burke tied her personal best score while Simbhudas and Turcotte set personal records. Burke won the event with a 9.875 while Simbhudas tied for third with Dilick, scoring 9.775.

"Once again we gained a valuable lesson today. With each meet we gain a learning experience, and by the time we get to Big Ten championships and Regional championships, hopefully we will have learned all the lessons we need," said Burke.

On beam, Turcotte once again scored a personal record. She placed third with a 9.8. Other beam scores include Simbhudas finishing in a tie for fifth (9.775), and Brandi Loffer and Burke tying for eighth (9.75).

Simbhudas set a personal record on floor, recording a 9.9 to tie for second place. Burke tied for fifth (9.825), and Turcotte finished strongly on the floor exercise, setting a personal record with a score of 9.775.

In the all-around, Janet Anson of Iowa State won the event, scoring 39.45. Burke scored 39.225 to finish second, and Turcotte finished fourth with a 39.075.

"I'm disappointed for the girls. Today is bittersweet, but the loss will force this team to be better. It could have been worse, going to bars and beam after having a hard time on vault, but this team came back on three events and showed their competitive spirit," said Iowa Head Coach Larissa Libby.

Iowa will compete at Missouri, March 9th at 7 p.m.
