Hawkeyes Place Sixth At Big Tens

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA - The Iowa women's gymnastics team placed sixth at Big Ten Championships, Saturday, with a 192.75. Michigan won the competition, scoring 196.575. On vault, freshman Katie Turcotte had a strong showing for Iowa, tying for fourth place with Maureen Moody (Michigan) and Kristen Coleman (Michigan State) with a score of 9.85. Kara Pinjuv finished in a four-way tie for seventh place, scoring 9.825. Iowa's showing on bars wasn't as strong, as Beth Dilick finished tied for 14th place, posting a 9.825. Jenifer Simbhudas was Iowa's next highest placed competitor, scoring 9.8 to tie for 16th. Pinjuv scored Iowa's best beam score, 9.75, to tie for 14th place, while Katie Burke posted a 9.7 to tie for 19th. On floor exercise, Simbhudas tied for sixth with Carmelina Carabajal of Minnesota, scoring 9.825. Burke tied for eighth place with a 9.8. In the all-around, Pinjuv finished third, scoring 39.075, while Burke tied for 10th place (38.7), and Simbhudas finished 12th (38.525).
