MINNEAPOLIS, MN - The 22nd-ranked Iowa Hawkeyes placed sixth at the North Central Regional Championship Saturday with a total 193.875. It was the first time Iowa competed at regional competition as a team since 2005. No. 2 Utah won the meet with a 196.950.

Iowa began competition on beam earning a 48.025. Freshman Houry Gebeshian was Iowa's top competitor in the event, tying for 15th with a 9.75. Jenifer Simbhudas had the Hawkeyes' next best performance with a 19th-place 9.725. Brandi Loffer and Katie Burke both posted a score of 9.675 to tie for 22nd place. Rounding out Iowa's bars line-up were Rebecca Simbhudas and Kara Pinjuv who scored 9.2 and 9.15, respectively.

After beam, the Hawkeyes had a bye before continuing on to floor competition. The team went on to score a 49.125 in the event. Jenifer Simbhudas had an impressive 9.9 performance to finish in a tie for second and Burke scored a 9.825 for a 14th-place tie. Pinjuv, Loffer and Gebeshian all posted scores of 9.8 to tie for 18th. Jenny Donar scored a 9.65 to tie for 37th.

Moving on to vault Iowa scored a 48.7. Jenifer Simbhudas and Kara Pinjuv had the best performances for Iowa, both earning a 9.8 to tie for 14th. Rebecca Simbhudas finished tied for 20th with a 9.75 while Burke and Gebeshian tied for 28th with a 9.675.

Iowa had another bye before finishing competition on bars with a 48.025. Burke, Loffer and Rebecca Simbhudas all posted a 9.775 in the event to tie for 11th. Gebeshian tied for 23rd with a 9.7.

In the all-around, Burke was Iowa's highest scorer, posting a 38.95 to finish ninth. Gebeshian placed 10th with a 38.925 while Loffer placed 16th with a 38.375. Ashley Postell of Utah won the all-around with a 39.6.

"We had our ups and downs tonight but overall this has been a good season in which we made great strides," said Iowa Head Coach Larissa Libby. "We had some great performances tonight but the competition was tough. We're a good team but not a great team and there were some good lessons learned tonight. We will build off this season and our future looks bright."
