This Week

The University of Iowa women's gymnastics team will travel to University Park, PA, for the Big Ten Championships, Saturday. The competition will be held at Rec Hall on the Penn State campus, beginning at 5 p.m. (CST)

Scouting The Big Ten

Penn State is first in the Big Ten rankings, and 12th nationally with an average score of 195.223. Michigan follows, ranked 13th nationally, averaging 195.620 while Michigan State is third. Ohio State and Illinois are 20th and 21st nationally, while Minnesota and Iowa follow. Iowa is ranked 32nd, with a 193.735 average.

Last Time At Big Ten Championships

Iowa traveled to East Lansing, MI to compete at Big Ten Championships in 2006, hosted by Michigan State. The Hawkeyes placed sixth with a score of 193.425. Liz Grajewski placed sixth in the all-around with a 38.7, including a 9.725 on beam to tie for 15th place. Kortny Williamson tied for ninth on beam, scoring a 9.775, and Beth Dilick posted a 9.75 on bars to tie for tenth place.

Last Competition

Iowa competed at Iowa State with Denver last weekend. The Hawkeyes placed third, scoring 194.450. Katie Burke tied for third on floor with a 9.9. The score was a season best for Burke and tied for Iowa's top floor score this season. Kara Pinjuv scored a season-best 9.8 on beam to tie for third, and a season best all-around score of 39.2, which earned her a fourth place finish. Danielle Legeai also had a season best score, recording a 9.85 on beam to finish second.

Head Coach Larissa Libby

Iowa Head Coach Larissa Libby is in her third season as head coach of the Hawkeyes. In her first two years, Libby recorded a 12-31 overall record. Before becoming head coach, Libby was Iowa's associate head coach for one year and an assistant coach for three seasons. While associate head coach, Libby led the GymHawks to a school record 49.425 beam performance in 2004. In addition, in 2004 the GymHawks recorded a 49.0 or higher seven times on beam under Libby's guidance.
