Iowa Finishes Day One At NCAA Regional

OAK RIDGE, TN - The University of Iowa rowing team competed in the first two rounds at the Aramark Central/South Regional Saturday. The Hawkeyes are sending four boats to the petite finals and one boat to the C final Sunday. The regatta, hosted by the University of Tennessee, is in Oak Ridge, TN. Iowa's 1V8+ (6:34.80), 2V8+ (6:42.68), 1V4+ (7:31.86) and Open 4+ A (7:15.47) boats all place third in their respective morning heats, which qualified them for the A/B semifinals in the afternoon. The Open 4+ A boat finished just over five seconds behind the Duke A boat in first place. The Open 4+ B boat placed fourth in its preliminary heat in a time of 7:26.18. Iowa's 1V8+ (6:15.60), 2V8+ (6:18.90) and 1V4+ (7:17.50) boats each placed fifth in their respective semifinal races. They will compete in the petite finals Sunday morning. Iowa's Open 4+ B boat won its semifinal race in a time of 7:18.30 and will compete in the petite finals as well. Additionally, Iowa's Open 4+ A boat will compete in the C final as it placed sixth in its semifinal race in a time of 7:31.06. Regional competition will continue Sunday morning at approximately 8 a.m. (CT) with grand, petite, C and D finals.
