THIS WEEK: The University of Iowa women's rowing team will be competing in the Big Ten Rowing Championships on Sunday, May 19 in Indianapolis.

THE RACE: The races will take place at Eagle Creek Park in Indianapolis. This will be the third year that the Big Ten Championships have taken place at the course. This years championships are a seven-lane, finals-only event. Iowa took seventh place at the 2012 Big Ten Championships.

EVENT INFORMATION: The races will begin at 9 a.m. Eastern Time and will finish at noon with the awards presentation. Michigan enters the event as defending champion, having taken last year's Championships with a team score of 147. Ohio State boasts five top-seeded boats entering Sunday's races, as the I Varsity Eight, II Varsity Eight, I Varsity Four, II Varsity Four and III Varsity Four boats all claimed No. 1 seeds. Six Big Ten teams are ranked or receiving votes in the latest national poll, led by Ohio State, which is ranked third and is receiving first-place votes. Michigan is No. 13, followed by No. 14 Wisconsin and No. 20 Minnesota. Iowa and Michigan State are receiving votes in the poll.

Last Event: The University of Iowa women's rowing team placed second overall at the fifth annual Dale England Cup on April 26-27 at Lake Lemon in Bloomington, Ind. The competition included boats from Indiana, Iowa, Notre Dame and Alabama. The Hawkeyes finished second in the final team standings with 98 points. Notre Dame earned first place with 118 points to take home the Dale England Cup Trophy. Indiana finished third with 84 points and Alabama was fourth with 60 points.

NEW HAWKEYE IN CHARGE: Steve Pritzker is in his first season as head coach of the University of Iowa women's rowing program. Pritzker, who is only the second head coach in program history, comes to Iowa after a successful career at the University of Virginia. While at Virginia, Pritzker won two NCAA championships as associate head coach (2010, 2012), along with two runner-up finishes (2005, 2007). Virginia won eight ACC titles in his nine years with the program. Pritzker was named the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association National Assistant Coach of the Year in 2007 and 2010. Pritzker was a four-year letterwinner at Yale University and earned his master's degree from Virginia.

Quoting Coach Pritzker: "Our team is excited to compete this weekend at the Big Ten Championships," Pritzker stated. "While the spring has had some challenging weather circumstances, the rowers have done a great job of staying focused. We are looking forward to seeing where we stack up within our conference."
