THE STAFFWith the construction of the multi-million dollar Beckwith Boathouse, the University of Iowa rowing team now has the facility and the coaching experience to bring the Hawkeyes to the top.
Mandi Kowal has been in charge of the UI rowers since 1994 -- the year the program was elevated to varsity status. The 18th year Iowa head coach has a wealth of experience having competed on the US National Rowing Team for five years, while also serving as an assistant at Wisconsin for seven seasons. Assistant Carrie Callen is entering her sixth season with the Hawkeyes, while Courtney Valerious and Beth Redfearn are entering their first seasons with the program. Both Valerious and Redfearn are familiar with Big Ten Conference rowing, as the pair competed at Indiana and Wisconsin, respectively.
