WATERLOO, Iowa -- Freshman Katharine Woodruff's goal in the 106th minute sent the University of Iowa soccer team to a 1-0 double-overtime victory over Northern Iowa on Friday night at the Cedar Valley Soccer Complex.

The win was the first for UI head coach Dave DiIanni as the head Hawkeye and his first at the Division I level.

Woodruff's strike came off an assist from sophomore Natalie Krygier. It was the first of Woodruff's career.

After a scoreless first half that saw the Hawkeyes attempt eight shots, Iowa continued to pour it on the Panther defense in the second half registering 11 shots -- eight on goal. Iowa had a difficult time putting the ball passed UNI's Whitney Blunt. The Panther goalkeeper was a perfect 7-for-7 on saves during regulation, sending the contest to overtime for the second-straight year.

Iowa peppered shot-after-shot at Blunt in goal throughout the game, which led to a 24-3 advantage in shots, and a 10-1 edge in shots on goal. The Hawkeyes also had nine corner kicks to one for UNI.

Senior Kiley Beck picked up her first career victory in goal in the first start of her Iowa career. She made a single save and was at the back end of a Hawkeye defense that allowed just three shots.

Iowa (1-0) returns to action Sunday, facing Illinois-Chicago at 1 p.m. (CT) at Wish Field in Chicago.
