CHICAGO, ILL-- The University of Iowa women's soccer team recorded its third consecutive shutout of the season Friday night with a 3-0 win over Loyola-Chicago. The Hawkeyes improved to 3-1 on the season with the non-conference victory.

Scoring was balanced for the Hawkeyes, with three players scoring and two earning assists. Freshman Alex Melin earned her starting position for Iowa at the beginning of the seaon, making aggressive plays in the midfield. Melin scored her first career goal just 17 minutes into the game Friday night. Melin was assisted by Gabby Ainsworth, a talented sophomore that recorded her first career goal last weekend over Northern Illinois. Melin capitalized on a pass from the right from Ainsworth with a header shot into the net to put Iowa ahead.

Sophomore Jade Grimm did not give LUC goalkeeper, Katie Groesch, much time to recover, challenging her in the 21st minute with a bullet from seven yards out on the right side. The ball sailed into the left side of the goal to send Iowa ahead 2-0 before the half. Dana Dalrymple was credited with the assist.

"We made good things happen offensively," Head Coach Ron Rainey said of his team's efforts. "I thought our effort level went way up in the second half. We put a lot of pressure on Loyola for a solid 30 minutes. We made great things happen and scored a few good goals. Dana Dalrymple did a lot of good things up top for us tonight. Her hard work led to many opportunities and paid off in an assist in the second goal."

Junior Morgan Showalter finalized the game with an unassisted challenge at the 72:06 mark. Showalter drove the left side of the field on a breakaway push. The Cedar Rapids native sent the ball to the left side near the post just past LUC keeper's hands.

Emily Moran recorded her tenth shutout of her career with the 3-0 victory. Moran recorded eight saves in the win.

The Hawkeyes travel to Cedar Falls to take on Northern Iowa Sunday afternoon. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
