The Hawkeyes struck first in the third inning when they loaded the bases for cleanup hitter Katie Brown. Brown delivered with her first career triple to clear the bags and give Iowa a 3-0 lead.
Iowa struck again in the fourth frame when Goschie reached on a fielder's choice and later scored on a double steal to give Iowa a 4-0 edge.
Watkins started Iowa's fifth-inning rally by driving a single up the middle to lead off the frame. She was then lifted for pinch-runner Ashley Akers, who promptly stole second base and advanced to third on a pass ball. Goschie then drove home Akers with a sacrifice fly to deep left field to plate Akers to stretch Iowa's advantage to 5-0.
The Hawkeye offense continued to roll in the bottom of the sixth when Digmann singled, stole second base and scored on Chelsey Carmody's base hit to extend Iowa's lead to 6-0. Carmody eventually advanced to third when Watkins drew a base on balls and Brown singled to load the bases.
