IOWA CITY, Iowa -- University of Iowa softball incoming freshman Daniella Ibarra was one of 40 players named to the Women's National Team Trials roster as announced by USA Baseball on July 18. The Emerson, New Jersey, native will attend trials in Malibu, California, from Aug. 18-21 at Pepperdine University to compete for one of 20 spots on the final national team roster.
Invited athletes were chosen based on performances at regional tryouts held by USA Baseball, the Women's National Team Development Program held in January and the women's division of the 2013 National Team Identification Series.
Following team trials, the field of 40 will be trimmed to 20 players who will travel to Miyazaki, Japan, to represent the United State in the WBSC Women's Baseball World Cup from Sept. 1-7.
Ibarra made the full transition from baseball to softball in high school and will join the Hawkeyes this fall. She enjoyed a successful prep career at Immaculate Heart Academy, guiding the Blue Eagles to state sectional, county and league championships and a state title in 2012. As a senior, Ibarra hit .446 with 40 RBIs, six doubles, three triples and one home run and the Blue Eagles finished with a 31-2 record.
