Little Hawks (Grades K-3) - $25 2013 Dates - TBA A Clinic for kids to learn the basic fundamentals of softball. We will discuss both offensive and defensive skills and build excitement for the game! Advance Pitcher/Catcher Camp (Grades 8-12) - $80 2013 Dates - TBA Pitchers will learn how to perfect pitches including the rise, drop, and curve (screw and change-up will be added if time permits). Catchers will learn skills including receiving, blocking, throwing to bases, and more! *All campers who sign up for both the Advanced Pitcher/Catcher Camp and the All Skills Advanced Camp will receive a $30 discount. All Skills Advanced (Grades 8-12 - $100 (Lunch included) 2013 Dates - TBA Players will learn offensive and defensive skills including hitting, base running, short game, and position skill work. Pitching will NOT be covered, however pitcher fielding instruction will be offered. Catcher instruction and drills will cover catcher responsibilities within a team defense. The last portion of the camp will be a live controlled scrimmage with pitchers and catchers. All Skills Intermediate (Grades 4-7) - $90 (Lunch included) 2013 Dates - TBA Students will learn offensive and defensive skills including hitting, base running, short game, and position skill work. Pitcher fielding instruction will be covered. Catcher instruction and drills will cover catcher responsibilities within a team defense. Pitching (i.e. throwing pitches) and catching (i.e. catching pitchers) will be covered in the Intermediate Pitcher Add-On Camp. Intermediate Pitcher/Catcher Add On (Grades 4-7) - $10 2013 Dates - TBA *This is an add-on to the All Skills Intermediate Camp. Intermediate pitchers/catchers MUST register for the All Skills Intermediate Camp in order to register for the Intermediate Pitcher/Catcher Add On. Pitchers will learn to perfect pitches including fastball and change-up. Catchers will receive position skill instruction including receiving, blocking, and throwing.
Pitching Iowa head softball coach and pitching coach Marla Looper will share her knowledge on teaching pitching from her 16 years of coaching experience. Looper will discuss pitching mechanics, mental game and pitcher presence among other topics. Looper is in her second season as the head coach at the University of Iowa after spending the previous 11 years as an assistant coach at the University of Texas where she coached top pitchers including Cat Osterman. Defense Iowa assistant softball coach and defensive coach Adrianna Baggetta will lead an instructional session which will cover defensive fundamentals, team defense, and position skill work among other topics. Baggetta is in her second season at Iowa after spending the previous 12 years at the University of South Carolina as a player, assistant coach and associate head coach. Offense Iowa assistant softball coach and offensive coach Stacy May-Johnson will cover several topics including hitting mechanics (using Right View Pro video technology), short game, and base running. May-Johnson is a University of Iowa alumni in her second season as an assistant coach after spending three years as a volunteer assistant at the University of Louisville. May-Johnson is a six-year veteran of the National Professional Fastpitch League and a current member of the United States National Team. Softball Specific Strength and Conditioning Iowa assistant strength coach Jamie Wynn will discuss softball specific strength and conditioning for all levels and ages. Wynn is in her first season at Iowa after competing as a thrower in the University of Missouri track and field program where she was an All-Big 12 performer. NCAA Recruiting Rules A University of Iowa NCAA rules expert will share NCAA rules and regulations for the recruitment of Prospective Student-Athletes. He will also field questions so be prepared to ask questions. Iowa Softball Team Practice You will attend an Iowa softball practice where you will observe how coaching strategies are implemented on a daily basis.
Session I - $150 (5:15-6:45 p.m.) - April 9, 16, 23, 30 (CAMP FULL) Session II - $150 (7-8:30 p.m.) - April 9, 16, 23, 30 (CAMP FULL) (Monday, May 7 will be used as a make-up if any of the four sessions are cancelled due to inclement weather.) Both sessions are open to eighth through 12th grades. Session I and Session II are identical and are for high school softball players. (This is not a clinic for beginners.) The clinic will be instructed by UI assistant coach Stacy May-Johnson, an Iowa alum, a six-year veteran of the National Professional Fast Pitch League and current member of the USA Women's National Softball Team. The clinic will cover swing mechanics, as well as short game techniques. Video analysis using Right View Pro will be used to analyze, critique, and improve swing fundamentals. Short portions of the clinic will be a classroom setting where athletes will learn from watching video in Right View Pro. Parents are encouraged to attend the clinic. Click HERE
