MONTREAL -- University of Iowa senior Veronica Rydze and former Iowa diver Deidre Freeman placed fifth in the three-meter synchronized springboard event Sunday at the 2012 Canada Cup inside Olympic Park in Montreal.

The pair was the only duo representing the United States in the event and competed against pairs from Australia, Canada, China and Great Britain. Rydze and Freeman posted a score of 275.04, 48.36 points behind Jennifer Abel and Emilie Heymans of Canada, who won the title with 323.40 points.

The duos fifth place finish marked their third top-10 showing at a national event.
