IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Fourteen University of Iowa swimmers will compete at the U.S. Open Championships from July 30 to Aug. 3 at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center in Irvine, Calif.

"It is exciting to take the Hawkeyes to one of the premier swimming competitions in the world," said UI head coach Marc Long. "It is a continued expectation that our athletes compete at the highest levels. We're looking forward to outstanding racing this week."

The U.S. Open field is comprised of American and international athletes competing for club teams, and is contended in an Olympic-sized pool.

From the men's team, seniors Manuel Belzer (Mainz, Germany), Tyler Lentz (Reedsburg, Wis.), Andrew Marciniak (Gilbert, Ariz.), and Dustin Rhoads (Ames, Iowa), juniors Grant Betulius (Naperville, Ill.), Brian Donatelli (LaGrange, Ill.), sophomores Matthew Boyd (Clinton, Iowa), Mike Nelson (Tempe, Ariz.), Quillan Oak (Detroit Lakes, Minn.), and Andrew Parker (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) will all compete at the meet.

On the women's side, seniors Emily Hovren (Normal, Ill.) and Karolina Wartalowicz (Oswego, Ill.) will be joined by junior Becky Stoughton (Peoria, Ill.) and sophomore Olivia Kabacinski (La Porte, Ind.) will represent the Hawkeyes.

Betulius, Nelson, and Hovren will compete in their second national event of the summer, as the trio swam at the 2013 Phillips 66 National Championships last month in Indianapolis. Betulius and Nelson both advanced to the finals, finishing 16th in the 50-meter backstroke in 26.17 seconds and 13th in the 50-meter breaststroke in 28.71 seconds, respectively.
