Mira Radu

Position: Volunteer Assistant Coach (second season) Experience: First Season

Mira Radu is in her second season as assistant coach for the Hawkeyes. In 2010-11, Radu will serve as the team's volunteer assistant while she pursues a master's degree from the Univeristy of Iowa.

A native of Romania, Radu brings both professional and collegiate experience to the Iowa team. She claimed the Romania National and International Championships in 1994, she was a semifinalist at the Orange Bowl Junior Championships in 1995 and Winner of the Eddie Herr International in 1996. She then won additional events at the same level every year before she accepted a full scholarship to the University of Mississippi in 1999. A two-time all-American and academic all-American for the Rebels, Radu advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Singles Championships as a senior. She was a semifinalist at the All-American tournament and finalist in the ITA South Regionals. She climbed as high as seventh in the NCAA singles rankings and 245th in the WTA singles poll.

During her collegiate career she was named NCAA Women of the Year for the State of Mississippi in 2003, received the Eugenia Connor Award for Outstanding Female Athlete and the Cissie Leary Sportsmanship Award South Region.

Throughout her professional career she won several $10,000 tournaments. Her largest professional accomplishment came in 1998 with her appearance in the US Open.

Radu graduated cum laude with a bachelor's degree in business administration from Mississippi in 2003, and magna cum laude with a master of arts in Spanish from Mississippi in 2005. She earned her master of business administration degree from the University of Memphis in August. Born to Ana and Mircea Radu, she owes her tennis accomplishments prior to college to her father, her coach and mentor, and her academic achievements to her mother.
