Hawkeyes Top Cyclones (6-1)

AMES, Iowa -- The University of Iowa women's tennis team opened the 2013 season with a 6-1 win over Iowa State, earning another victory for the Hawkeyes in the annual Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk series. Iowa now leads Iowa State 12-9 in the Cy-Hawk Series. Junior Ruth Seaborne made her Hawkeye dual debut at the No. 1 position, topping the Cyclone's Ksenia Pronina (6-1, 6-1). Seaborne also teamed up with sophomore Morven McCulloch at the No. 1 position in doubles, earning an 8-1 win over Pronina and Simona Cacciuttolo. Sophomores Katie Zordani and Shelby Talcott also teamed for a doubles victory, defeating Ana Gasparovic and Caroline Hauge Andersen, (8-2), to secure the doubles' point. The Hawkeyes won 5-of-6 singles matches, including straight-set victories by Seaborne, Talcott, Zordani, and freshman Annette Dohanics. Dohanics defeated Emma Waites, 6-1, 6-4, to win her Hawkeye dual debut. Iowa hosts Notre Dame in its home opener Feb. 4. Competition begins at 3 p.m. at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex.
