WATERLOO, Iowa -- The University of Iowa women's tennis team resumed play at the UNI Invite Saturday. The Hawkeyes encountered poor weather for the second straight day, forcing the tournament to be moved indoors to the Black Hawk Tennis Club. The team ended the second day of competition with a 3-2 record in doubles and a 5-2 record in singles.

In doubles, Junior Sonja Molnar and senior Lynne Poggensee-Wei posted wins in both of their matches, downing Missouri's Mera/Stuhlmann 8-3 and Ritchie/Weber of Missouri 9-8 (4). The victories led to Molnar and Poggensee-Wei being named champions of the Platinum Flight bracket. Senior Alexis Dorr and junior Cassandra Escobar beat Gow/Schoen of Wisconsin-Milwaukee 8-0 before falling to Drake's Krizman/Aguilera 8-4 in the Gold Flight semifinals. Junior Ally Majercik, playing with Northern Iowa's Stefannia Sampaio, dropped an 8-1 decision to Kunzelmann/Moore of Northern Iowa.

The Hawkeyes were once again solid in singles play. Molnar defeated Manca Krizman of Drake 6-3, 6-1 to advance to the semifinals of the Platinum Flight bracket. Senior Jessica Young posted a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Haley Dekkinga of Northern Iowa to move into the semifinals of the Gold Flight bracket. Dorr also advanced to the Gold Flight semifinals, downing Missouri's Rachel Stuhlmann 6-1, 6-4. Freshman Christina Harazin will compete in the Silver Flight semifinals after beating Minnesota's Emilie Renault 6-1, 6-1. Escobar rounded out the Hawkeyes who advanced to a semifinal, winning a 6-0, 6-0 decision over Ellie Nixon of Iowa State. Escobar is competing in the Bronze Flight bracket. Poggensee-Wei and Majercik both lost tough three-set matches. Poggensee-Wei fell to Kaitlyn Ritchie of Missouri 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 while Majercik was defeated by Missouri's Annemijn Koenen 6-4, 4-6, 7-5.
