Iowa Stays Strong In Day Two Of Invitational

FLUSHING MEADOWS, NY - The Iowa women's tennis team concluded their second day of competition in the USTA Invitational at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center today. The Hawkeyes improved upon their 7-8 overall record from yesterday to go 1-2 in doubles competition and 4-3 in singles competition, bringing their tournament record to 12-13 overall. In doubles competition, the duo of Jennifer Barnes and Alexis Dorr remain undefeated in the tournament after defeating Yale's Stevi Petrelli and Jessie Rhee 8-4 today. Lynne Poggensee-Wei and Jessica Young fell twice today in doubles, but played a close match to Wake Forest's Emilee Malvehy and Sierra Paske that ended 9-7. In singles action, Kelcie Klockenga went undefeated in today's competition. Klockenga received the win after Purdue's Stephanie Wooten withdrew due to an injury and continued on to defeat Kathrin Sorokko of Brown 3-6, 7-5, 10-8. After going 1-1 in yesterday's singles competition, Klockenga improved to 3-1 in singles today. Dorr and Young were also victorious for the Hawkeyes in singles competition today. Dorr defeated Annie Houghton 6-2, 6-3 in a solid win while Young took down Army's Michael Tollerton 6-3, 6-2. Iowa will conclude competition in the USTA Invitational tomorrow.
