IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Former University of Iowa women's tennis player Sonja Molnar won her first professional tournament on the ITF circuit when she captured the Martinique championship in Fort-de-France last week.

Molnar, a native of Guelph, Ontario, and a 2012 Iowa graduate, outlasted No. 2 seed Indy de Vroome of the Netherlands in the quarterfinals 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (2), and upset the top seeded Sherazad Benamar of France 6-2, 6-0 in the finals.

Molnar was a four-time All-Big Ten performer for the Hawkeyes from 2009-12. She was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2009 and finished her career with 100 singles victories, the third highest total in program history.
