    IOWA CITY, IA
    THIS WEEK --The Iowa Women's Tennis team, 5-0 this year, will host the Northern Illinois Huskies Friday and travel to No. 54 Minnesota on Sunday. Competition is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex on Friday. Sunday, the Hawkeyes will open their Big Ten season against the Golden Gophers at the Baseline Tennis Center on the University of Minnesota campus. Play is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.

    THE HAWKEYES--Iowa is currently ranked 42nd in the FILA Collegiate Tennis Rankings. Competing for the Hawkeyes this week will be Jennifer Barnes, Merel Beelen, Kayla Berry, Kelcie Klockenga, Jacqueline Lee, Mili Veselinovic, Jessica Young, Lynne Poggensee-Wei, and Alexis Dorr. Dorr leads the Hawkeyes with an 11-3 singles record. The duo of Lee/Dorr is currently Iowa's most successful doubles team, with a 12-3 record.

    THE COMPETITION--Northern Illinois is currently unranked. The Huskies have a 2-1 record after a loss to Eastern Illinois at home. Iowa has a 6-1 all-time record against Northern Illinois. Minnesota is currently ranked 54th with an 8-1 record. The Hawkeyes have a 18-30 all-time record against the Golden Gophers.

    LAST WEEK--The Hawkeyes continued their winning streak after a 6-1 win over the Missouri Tigers Saturday. With the win, Iowa improved to 5-0 and ended Missouri's seven-match winning streak, its longest since 2005. Freshman Dorr and Senior Veselinovic each extended their singles record to 5-0 for dual match play. The Hawkeyes swept doubles competition, 3-0, for the third time this season, bringing their overall doubles record to 13-2.

    THIS SEASON--The Hawkeyes opened their 2008 spring season by dominating the Hawkeye Invitational against Drake, Iowa State, and Northern Iowa, ending the tournament with a 27-2 record. Senior Lee was named Co-Big Ten Athlete of the Week on Jan. 20 after an outstanding performance at the Hawkeye Invitational. Iowa has since gone undefeated in dual meets with a 5-0 record. The last time Iowa opened its season with five straight victories was the 1993-94 season.

    HEAD COACH DARYL GREENAN--Coach Daryl Greenan is in his fourth season as head coach of the Hawkeyes. Greenan led the Hawkeyes to a 12-10 overall record in 2007, going 7-3 in Big Ten competition for a fourth place league finish. Greenan was named 2006 Big Ten Coach of the Year. Greenan has a 44-26 overall record in three seasons at Iowa. Toni Neykova is the assistant coach and is in her sixth season with the Hawkeyes. She is a former member of the Hawkeye tennis team (1999-2002).
