THIS WEEK -- The University of Iowa women's tennis team will host Purdue, Saturday, and Illinois, Sunday. Competition will take place at the West Campus Tennis-Recreation Center and is set to begin at 10 a.m. both days.

THE HAWKEYES -- The Hawkeyes post a 7-1 Big Ten record, the best Big Ten start for Iowa since the 1990 season. Iowa is ranked 37th, with a 15-4 overall record. Individually, Meg Racette is ranked No. 37 in singles. Others expected to compete for the Hawkeyes are, Jacqueline Lee, Merel Beelen, Kayla Berry, Krissy Dowlin, Hillary Mintz, and Mili Veselinovic. The Hawkeyes have a chance for their best Big Ten season in history if they secure wins over Purdue and Illinois this week. Iowa posted a 7-2 Big Ten record for a fourth place Big Ten finish in the 1990 season.

THE COMPETITION -- Purdue is ranked 46th with an 11-8 overall record, including 5-3 against Big Ten opponents. Freshman Randi Schuler is ranked No. 66 nationally. Illinois is currently unranked with a 7-12 overall record and a 2-6 mark against Big Ten opponents. Sophomore Macall Harkins is ranked 95th in singles.

LAST TIME VS. PURDUE -- Iowa traveled to Purdue in 2005, and was defeated, 5-2. Meg Racette upset Hala Sufi, 7-6 (10), 6-2, and Mili Veselinovic defeated Brooke Beier, 3-6, 7-5, 7-5.

LAST TIME VS. ILLINOIS -- Iowa defeated Illinois in 2005, 6-1. Iowa claimed the doubles point and five singles victories.

LAST MEET -- Iowa traveled to Penn State and Indiana last week. The Hawkeyes beat both teams 4-3. Iowa won the doubles point against both teams. Meg Racette and Jacqueline Lee upset the 57th ranked duo of Sarah Batty and Laura McGaffigan of Indiana.

HEAD COACH Daryl Greenan -- Coach Greenan is in his second season as head coach for the Hawkeyes. He led the Hawkeyes to a 14-10 overall record in 2005, going 8-4 in Big Ten competition for a fourth place finish in the conference. Greenan has a 29-14 overall record in two seasons at Iowa. Toni Neykova is the assistant coach and begins her fourth season with the Hawkeyes.
