THIS WEEK
The University of Iowa women's tennis team travels to Waterloo, IA to compete at the Northern Iowa Invite September 24-26. The tournament will be held at Byrnes Park. Action begins on Friday at 11 a.m. and continues through Saturday and Sunday, with play starting both days at 9 a.m.

THE LINE-UP
All seven Hawkeyes on the roster will compete.

THE COMPETITION
The Hawkeyes will compete against 11 teams; Bradley, Drake, Iowa State, Minnesota, Missouri, Northern Illinois, North Dakota, South Dakota, South Dakota State, UNI and Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

ITA PRE-SEASON RANKINGS
Sophomore Sonja Molnar is ranked 39th in the 2010 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) preseason poll. Last year, the Guelph, Ontario native finished the season ranked 55th by ITA, the highest ranking by a Hawkeye since 2006. Molnar was an all-Big Ten selection in 2009-10, compiling a 28-9 record (7-3 Big Ten) playing in the number one position.

Molnar is also part of a doubles team that garnered a pre-season ranking. Molnar and Senior Lynne Poggensee-Wei enter the season ranked 35th by ITA. Molnar and Poggenesee-Wie went 5-2 in last spring.

HAWKEYES MAKE THE GRADE IN 2009-10
The University of Iowa women's tennis athletes excel in the classroom as well. Last season, six of the team's seven student-athletes were named academic all-Big Ten for their efforts during the 2009-10 academic school year, including returning letterwinners Ally Majercik, Sonja Molnar, Lynne Poggensee-Wei, and Jessica Young.

HEAD COACH Katie Dougherty
Head Coach Katie Dougherty is entering her second season at the helm of the women's tennis team. The Wisconsin alumni guided the Black and Gold to new heights in 2010, reaching as high as 18th in the ITA National Rankings, the best in program history. The Hawkeyes finished 2010 with a 17-7 overall record and a 6-4 Big Ten record. Iowa placed 4th in the conference and advanced to NCAA post-season competition.
