The Iowa indoor track season began tonight with the Hawkeyes hosting the 2005 Iowa Open in the Recreation Building. Eight schools competed in the early season event: Bradley University, Coe College, Lewis University, North Central College, Northern Iowa, Truman State University, Western Illinois, and Iowa.

Iowa junior Adam Hamilton was a provisional NCAA qualifier with a weight throw of 61-93/4 and sophomore Peaches Roach had a provisional high jump of 5-103/4.

Several Iowa athletes were competing at the collegiate level for the first time in tonight's meet. In all, over 40 Hawkeyes set collegiate bests in both field and running events. Nine Iowa women placed first in their respective events, and six men set the high marks in their events.

The men's and women's teams will compete in the Gold Country Classic hosted by the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis next weekend.
