Hawkeyes Finish Second; Alexander Provisionally Qualifies

Champaign, IL - The University of Iowa women's track team placed second at the Carle/Health Alliance Invitational, Saturday. Junior Kineke Alexander provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 200 meters and senior Becca Franklin broke her previous school record in the weight throw. Alexander placed second in the 200 meters (23.99) behind Yvonne Mensah of Illinois (23.87). Franklin also placed second in the weight throw (56-8), breaking the previous record by one and a half feet. This marks the third week in a row in which Franklin has improved her record. Senior Peaches Roach and sophomore Renee White each took home individual titles. Roach earned first place in the high jump with a jump of 5'10". Illinois' Mariesa Greene also cleared 5'10" but she had one more miss than Roach. White's title came in the triple jump with a career-best jump of 40'3/4". The Hawkeyes also placed first in the 1,600-Meter Relay with a season-best time of 3:47.50. The Hawkeyes next competition will be at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational in Lincoln, NE on Feb. 2-3.
