The Iowa men's and women's track team hosted the Hawkeye Open tonight in the Recreation Building. Also participating in the annual event were competitors from Coe College, Grinnell, Wartburg, and Washington University.

Seniors Andy Banse and Ken Kemeny provisionally qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships in the shot put with throws of 59-1.5 and 58-8.5, respectively. The Iowa women had two individual champions as well as the gold medal team in the 1,600-meter relay. The Hawkeye men had nine individual champions. In the meet, 16 Iowa athletes set new collegiate bests in both field and running events.

Next weekend both Iowa teams will be competing in the Big Ten Indoor Championships. The women's team will be in Ann Arbor, MI, and the men's team will be in West Lafayette, IN.
