Feb. 24, 2007
Champaign, IL - The University of Iowa women's track team is currently in eighth place with 13 points. Minnesota leads the Big Ten Championships with 59 points. Junior Kineke Alexander has put herself in great position to win two Big Ten titles by turning in the fastest preliminary times in the 200 meters (23.93) and the 400 meters (54.56). Juniors Diane Nukuri (9:32.75) and Meghan Armstrong (9:40.91) each had a strong showing in the 3,000 meters. The duo finished second and fifth respectively earning 12 of the teams total 13 points. The remaining point came from sophomore Renee White in the long jump. White finished fifth, with a season long leap of 19-2 ½. Senior Tammilee Kerr placed ninth in the pentathlon with 3,553 points. This was the first time Kerr has competed in the pentathlon this season. Her time away from the event didn't stop her from setting career marks in the 800 meters (2:31.02) and in the high jump (5-4 ½). Kerr's highest finish came in the high jump where she finished sixth. In addition to Alexander, three other Hawkeyes advanced to the finals after running well in the preliminary rounds. Senior Tiffany Johnson finished with the fourth fastest time in the 60 meter hurdles (8.39), Armstrong is going into the finals with the seventh fastest time in the mile (4:50.85) and Peaches Roach will be joining Alexander in the 200 meters (24.52).
